Mechanical Assembler

Job Description

The mechanical assembler will be responsible for putting together component parts, weldmats, and subassemblies, adhering to a specified set engineering specifications or schematics. They will also verify the correct quantities of components parts, quality check completed items, manage parts inventory, and use hand tools and mechanical equipment to produce structurally sound products.

Duties:
  • Read and interpret blueprint specifications to determine procedures and assembly sequence
  • Assemble and fit parts, subassemblies, and mechanisms together
  • Set up and operate a variety of manual machinery with supervision
  • Operate various hand tools, power hand tools, and machine tools to make adjustments to tooling or the parts
  • Use a variety of precision measuring devices to set up and adjust parts and verify conformance of work to specifications
  • Troubleshoot basic assembly problems
  • Perform general preventative maintenance work on tools and equipment
  • Create and/or complete all necessary documentation and paperwork as required (some documentation is done on computers)

Requirements:
  • Familiarity with portable power tool and machine tools such as drill press, band saw, cut-off saw and grinder
  • Ability to read and understand documents such as blueprints or schematics, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write standard documentation, comfort with documenting on a computer
  • Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) with other employees of the organization in a quick and accurate manner
  • Mathematical skills that require the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Must perform metric conversions
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or visual formats
  • Basic knowledge of carpentry and pneumatics is beneficial but not required
  • Must have basic set of tools, list available upon request
  • Overtime may be required to support customer needs
  • Ability to travel if needed
