Job Description

Exciting opportunity with a large, reputable Credit Union in the Houston area. Supports the financial management and operations of the Credit Union through maintenance of accounting records and reports. Balances and produces assigned reports and reconciles assigned general ledger accounts. Essential Functions & Responsibilities:       40%           Posts daily journal entries, posts to and balances general or subsidiary ledgers, and reconciles bank transaction accounts. Verifies accuracy, completeness, and consistency of accounting information received.  Reconciles and reports discrepancies found.
      20%           Performs supporting administrative tasks within the accounting department including posting accounting entries, and assisting others within the department as needed.
     10%           Produces monthly reports to include, but not limited to Charge Off Report, PPL Pricing Report, Share Impact Report, ALCO Loan Report and Statistical Report.
      5%             Maintains files, including general ledger (GL) journal, and other miscellaneous filings.
      5%             Balances shares, loans, and suspense daily.  Researches and corrects any discrepancies.
      5%             Monthly Prepaid and Fixed Asset processing and balancing.
      5%             Prepares assigned monthly and annual reports.
      5%             Complies with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations. N     5% Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Performance Measurements:
  1. Keep all assigned general ledger (GL) accounts current and in balance daily according to established department standards.
  2. Prepare all reports within the prescribed time frame with no unresolved errors.
  3. Ensure filing is accurately completed within expected timeframe.
  4. Report unresolved discrepancies in a timely manner.
  5. Troubleshoot and resolve internal inquiries in a timely and accurate manner.
  6. Provide helpful and informative service and support to all members and associates.
  7. Must be detailed oriented.
Knowledge and Skills: Experience   Five or more years of similar or related experience. Credit Union accounting experience and experience with Symitar preferred, but not required.  Experience with Microsoft Excel required.
Education     (1) A two-year college degree or (2) Completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or (3) Completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program. 
    Interpersonal Skills

Work involves contact with persons beyond immediate associates regarding routine matters for the purpose of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion. Outside contacts take the form of service to the public (members or vendors), requiring ordinary courtesy in providing assistance and information.

Other Skills:  Thorough knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology. Adds, subtracts, multiplies, or divides quickly and correctly. General office equipment such as calculators, computers, photocopiers, and scanners. Microsoft Excel
